May 2015 Band Concert Reflection
Concert Reflection for May 12, 2015
1. Did you feel well prepared for this performance, why or why not? (ie: Did you do what was expected of you leading up to the concert?)
I felt that I was prepared for this performance because I knew all the notes from all three songs. I can also follow the beat and play it slow, medium, and fast.
2. What was the strongest part of our performance, and why?
I thought the strongest part of the performance was when we ended every song. I think this because towards the end, some of us would gradually bring the volume down and it helps because it slowly turns from a loud piece to just silence. This helps the audience by knowing when the piece ends and when it's just rests and pauses.
3. What was the weakest part of our performance, and why? What can we (and you) do to improve for next time?
I thought the weakest part was towards the end of Lost Tomb because many flutes and maybe other instruments don't really know the notes/ can't play that fast. And so the only way to this problem is making sure every single person is doing their part/ making sure we're together and practice more as a class.
4. On a scale from 1 to 5, (5 being the best) how would you rate the overall band students’ behavior as audience members for this concert? Why? (no names please)
I thought the scale would be a 3-4 because during the concert, many people would be chatting and talking in between/ during the concert and that was really rude to the people that were trying hard to concentrate.
5. What was your favorite piece and why?
I thought my favourite piece is Court Festival because it really 'changed' the audience and even our emotions. For example, when I first went on stage, my heart was beating as fast as the drums. But after playing this piece, it really changed my mood and made me enjoy what I was playing. In other words, I love this piece because it brings your mood from not so good, to being joyful and happy!

Science - Fishing rod with Electromagnets!
In science class, we recently started a new unit called electricity. After learning a little more about how a lightbulb works and why it works, we moved on to learning more about electromagnets. As our homework, we learned about what it electromagnet and electromagnets are technically created when you wrap a wire around a nail. After learning that we need to build a fishing rod, we started planning out ideas and how our fishing rod would be like. Here’s all of our drafts down below.
The first draft - Down belong is a picture of my first plan that both me and my partner, Elina, drafted. This picture technically explains that the long wire is attached to the battery holder (with batteries) and also wrapped around the nail down below. Then again with the other side of the wire, it is also attached to the battery holder on the other side. The only thing that was good about this fishing rod was that it has a complete circuit, which was really important to have because that’s how the nail can pick up the paper clips. But there was also negative things which was it was too weak (it can only pick up 2 small paper clips at once) and also, there no switch.
The second draft - For our second draft, we decided to add a switch and also make sure it has a complete circuit. After listing a bunch of ideas of what we can use as a switch, we finally figured that we would use thumb tacks and a paper clip. The paper clip can be the one that controls if the circuit is going to be complete (when the nail can pick up paper clips) or if the circuit is going to be incomplete (when the nail can’t pick up paper clips.) So here’s our draft:
Some of the good things is that it has a complete circuit like before, and also, it finally has a switch. We also realized that the switch makes the fishing rod slightly stronger. From only lifting up 2 paper clips to lifting up a big purple clipper. Though some things we could have changed was maybe making another switch because our switch wasn’t as fast as some of the others.
During our fishing derby competition, we decided to stick with our second design. In total, we got 305 points!

Quizlet of Everything!
In this unit, we are learning about electricity and how things lighted up. So in this case, we made a game about it. This game is worked by having one wire on one side while the other wire is where the questions are. As you can see, I have scrambled up the answers, so you have to connect the red wire to the question you're on (the left) and find the answer on the right and connect it in order to have a complete circuit. The picture on the left is the front, and the picture on the right is the back. Today, I'll be explaining how this works.

First off with just a brief summary of how you can make a complete circuit, you would need a voltage source (in this case, we're using a battery.) a conductor, (we're using aluminum foil as you can see in the picture on the right) a resistor, (we're using just plain old tape for this to make sure the path is making a full circuit.) and also, a path. When you have a complete path, that is when you have a complete circuit! How does that work though? Well, here's diagram that I drew:
This diagram is showing us how a normal circuit works. All you need is a lightbulb, battery(s), and some wires. In this case, we're connecting the wires with the battery and the lightbulb that's letting the electrons flow freely in the wires and also forcing electrons to go through the lightbulb in order 'travel' to the other wire. As the electrons flow through the lightbulb, it lights up! The game that I made was something similar, except, the aluminum foil is connected to the answers and questions.
THE GAME:
As I had explain on the top, the game basically works by having the red wire that's on the left and having the black wire on the right. Questions are on the left and answers are on the right. For each question, there's suppose to be a correct answer listed. When you find that answer, you put the black wire on the answer hole and the red wire on the question hole. If your light lights up, that means you got the answer right. Furthermore, that also means that you created a complete circuit. How? Well as you can see behind the game board, there's aluminum foil and tape behind. Aluminum foil is used like a wire to let electrons move freely and travel from one wire to either another wire or a lightbulb. In this case, I placed the aluminum foil to where the answer was and where the question is. So when you get the right answer, electrons can cross threw that path in order to light up. The reason why we used aluminum foil is because as studies were done, they thought that all kinds of metals, irons, or steels work the best. Though somethings that can't be used to let electrons move freely are plastic, wood, etc. These are called insulators. With insulators, your circuit is going to be incomplete. So, we used aluminum foil instead. You may be wondering, Why would it still work if you put aluminum foil on top of every single question? Won't it connect to each other? The answer to this questions is no because we used tape. Tape is our resistor here, meaning it's the one that protects the aluminum foil from affecting other aluminum foil lines. Tape is really important here because without tape, people can get the answers wrong but the light can still light up because it's all connected. With all these objects, it works because electrons started from the voltage source (battery) and goes threw the wires, into the alluminum foil with tape protecting it, and back out with wires and into the voltage source again. When that all happens, you finally have your circuit complete and a complete path!!!!!

Band: Concert Reflection March 2015
What is expected of me as a performer:
- What do I need to do leading up to the performance in terms of my own practicing?
2. What is my responsibility on stage during a performance?
I need to make sure that I'm not talking to my friends and alway's trying my best.
3.What will I do differently in preparing for the next concert?
I should change 10 minutes before the concert starts. Also I should practice more.
What is expected of me as an audience member:
- What do I need to be doing while someone is performing?
2.What do I need to do after someone has performed?
By showing them that we're proud of their hard work, we need to clap afterwards.
3. What should I do if people around me are not being good audience members?
I should quietly tap on the person's shoulder and let them know that you shouldn't talk during the concert.
4 .What will I do differently as an audience member for next concert?
Even though I do have to move around every once a while, I can still do it quietly.
I am most proud of...
One thing that I'm most proud of is the fact that I got to play my first concert music piece!

Counting by 7s- book Review
Have you ever read a book that got you all touched because of the authors craft? Well, if you like those kind of books, then this book is totally for you! Have you ever read any of Holly Goldberg Sloan's books? Well, you should!! She does a really good job at authors craft. Counting by 7s by Holly Goldberg Sloan is about a girl named Willow Chance that learns about life and how not everything is her way. And in this book, you will understand how Willow Chance is feeling. When you read this book, you will understand why the author craft it this way. In this book, Willow Chance is different from others, meaning she's smarter than others, she likes counting by 7s, (unlike others who like playing video games, etc.) and she also has a lot of family issues. This makes the book interesting because you can compare and contrast after when you read the book with what you thought before and what you think after the book. You can also compare and contrast about Willow and you.
One thing that I really liked about this book was the authors craft. She did well on using different perspectives with different chapters. One example of that is she has a chapter on Willow's perspectives like her thoughts, how she's feeling, and many more. But then, she has another chapter that talks in third person so then you can understand more on what most of the characters are feeling, and maybe what they would do. Although sometimes, it does have other character's feeling about Willow.
Another thing that I really liked was she has a balance of DAT. Meaning description, action, and thinking. This helps the reader to understand what's really going on in the story as if you were Willow because there's a complicated situation with family issues and you can just feel what Willow is feeling, thinking, and seeing in her life.
In conclusion, I think this book would be good for people that likes touching stories, or family problems, and for those that likes Holly Goldberg Sloan.

Character extension Project!
Rain Reign
Everybody or any living thing probably has problems with their families, friends, and more at least once in their whole entire life. And that’s okay because we learn from them. Even though we feel like punching them sometimes, we actually want to hug them again and wished nothing had happen. Because that was what Rose wanted with her father. In the book, Rain Reign, by Ann M. Martin, Rose Howard is underestimating her trust with her father throughout the book but deep deep down, Rose loves her father no matter what.
In Rain Reign, Rose doesn’t really have friends except her dog because everyone finds her weird for loving homophones. Even But that’s not the big problem. Everyday, Rain comes to Rose after school and gives her a lick like saying, “Welcome back! I’m so glad you’re back!” But today, she didn’t give Rose a lick. She’s gone. Throughout this book, Rose and her father has trouble getting back together as Rose still thinks he’s trying to do something. One example from the book is:
“Why didn’t you wake me up when you let Rain outside during the storm?”
“For Pete’s sake, Rose, haven’t we been over that already?”
“But why didn’t you?”
“I will answer that question one more time and then I don’t want to hear about it again. I didn’t wake you up because Rain has been outside plenty of times by herself and she always comes back. I didn’t think it was necessary. Besides, the storm was over.”
“Why didn’t you put on her collar on before she went out?”
“Rose! Enough!” ~ From the story Rain Reign by Ann M. Martin. pg. 110
This is important because it shows that Rose’s father trying to get away from something because he doesn’t want to admit why he let Rain out without telling Rose.
Along the way, Rose starts thinking up ways of how to get back Rain with her uncle, uncle Wildon. But at the same time, her father doesn’t help her find Rain, which also makes Rose wonder about her father hiding something. But afterwards, Rain was safely found at the animal pet shelter.
I think the Rose treats everyone fair even though people bully her a lot. And some examples to prove this is in the book when her dad lost Rain but didn’t exactly want to approve it, she yelled at him and got mad at him. Even though this doesn’t look fair, but Rose probably wants her dad to know that it’s okay to make mistakes as long as you admit it. And deep, deep down her heart, she probably loves her dad no matter what.

Sending and receiving
I think I did well on remembering to put my hands on the target and sort of tilting when throwing. But I think I could have improved on raising my hands higher and reaching my legs out to put more force into throwing. And I noticed from the beginning to now, I can throw higher balls with higher targets (with more power in it.) And I applied this into Tchoukball by receiving (and absorbing after you catch the ball.) Also throwing with higher targets.

Science refletion
One thing I learned from this unit was density. Density is the amount of mass per cubic volume. And the formula for density is mass divided by volume. I learned something about this because Mrs. Hill taught me about a heart, and if you spilt the heart in half horizontally, there's a M and the top and a V at the bottom. The line sometimes represent divide in division. So M= Mass and V=volume. Mass divided by volume equals to density. I think one of the most memorable and meaningful things I did was the submarine because that taught me how to problem solve and to revise over and over again if I didn't get something or if it didn't become successful. It was also meaningful because it taught me that different people can have different ideas. Another thing that was memorable and meaningful is the layers of liquids because that also had to do with density. For example, the bottom color is at negative buoyancy because the liquid is denser than the others. And this is meaningful because I learned more about density and understand it better than before.

Fraction Comparison Reflection
Question: You know how to compare fractions using cross products, LCD, reasoning. When is it better to use one method over another?
When both denominators don't have numbers that are in common, you would use cross products or reasoning depending on if the question is hard to do in your head. But when the denominators can be equivalent, then you would use LCD to find out which one is bigger. But easy problems like 2/4 and 1/3, you can use reasoning because you already know how much 1/3 is and how much 2/4 is.

Math Reflections: Factors and Multiples
Questions:
#1: Common multiples help you if you with questions that contains having to find out the common multiple of something. A common multiple is a multiple that both numbers have as one of their multiple. For example, if I had the number 6 and 9, the common multiple of 6 and 9 would be 3. But common factors help you with questions that include with finding the common factors. One example would be if there was a ferris wheel that goes for 3 seconds per round while another goes for 4 seconds. And they asked you what's the fastest time they can meet, then you would keep on adding 4+4 or 3+3 until you get a number that matches. In this case, the answer would be 12.
#2a: You can find the common factors by adding up 4+4 or 3+3 if I had a question like that ferris wheel. You keep on adding it until you spot a number that they have in common. Like 12. 12 is not the greatest common factor because you can keep on adding it up until you get 100 or more!

Locker's problem
This problem involves with needing precise math. Because once you got something wrong, then you got the entire thing wrong. And I learned you shouldn’t over think it, or else you would get confused, then think of the wrong answer, making it not have the correct answer afterwards. So in conclusion, precision is the answer to this problem.
At first, my partner and I thought of just doing 100 circles and crossing them off, or “opening” them. But then we realized that it would take forever. So like Mr. Munden had said, it was all the square numbers and was either up to 1,000 or a little less than a 1,000. So when I got back home, I started doing all the square numbers until I got 1,000. In total: I got 31 lockers were open. And I got this by the square numbers that are up/a little below 1,000. Here’s the square numbers:
1,4,9,16,25,36,49,64,81,100,121,144,169,196,225,2256,289,361,400,441,484,529,576,625,
675,729,784,841,900, and 961. If you had counted them, you would have gotten 31 numbers. and that is the answer to the question! And at the bottom, as I had explained, you only needed to find all the square numbers up to 30. so here’s the 100 chart and showing you how many square numbers or opened lockers should be there.
