Character extension Project!



Rain Reign


Everybody or any living thing probably has problems with their families, friends, and more at least once in their whole entire life. And that’s okay because we learn from them. Even though we feel like punching them sometimes, we actually want to hug them again and wished nothing had happen. Because that was what Rose wanted with her father. In the book, Rain Reign, by Ann M. Martin, Rose Howard is underestimating her trust with her father throughout the book but deep deep down, Rose loves her father no matter what.
In Rain Reign, Rose doesn’t really have friends except her dog because everyone finds her weird for loving homophones. Even  But that’s not the big problem. Everyday, Rain comes to Rose after school and gives her a lick like saying, “Welcome back! I’m so glad you’re back!” But today, she didn’t give Rose a lick. She’s gone. Throughout this book, Rose and her father has trouble getting back together as Rose still thinks he’s trying to do something. One example from the book is:

“Why didn’t you wake me up when you let Rain outside during the storm?”
“For Pete’s sake, Rose, haven’t we been over that already?”
“But why didn’t you?”
“I will answer that question one more time and then I don’t want to hear about it again. I didn’t wake you up because Rain has been outside plenty of times by herself and she always comes back. I didn’t think it was necessary. Besides, the storm was over.”
“Why didn’t you put on her collar on before she went out?”
“Rose! Enough!” ~ From the story Rain Reign by Ann M. Martin. pg. 110

This is important because it shows that Rose’s father trying to get away from something because he doesn’t want to admit why he let Rain out without telling Rose.
Along the way, Rose starts thinking up ways of how to get back Rain with her uncle, uncle Wildon. But at the same time, her father doesn’t help her find Rain, which also makes Rose wonder about her father hiding something. But afterwards, Rain was safely found at the animal pet shelter.

I think the Rose treats everyone fair even though people bully her a lot. And some examples to prove this is in the book when her dad lost Rain but didn’t exactly want to approve it, she yelled at him and got mad at him. Even though this doesn’t look fair, but Rose probably wants her dad to know that it’s okay to make mistakes as long as you admit it. And deep, deep down her heart, she probably loves her dad no matter what.

Sending and receiving

I think I did well on remembering to put my hands on the target and sort of tilting when throwing. But I think I could have improved on raising my hands higher and reaching my legs out to put more force into throwing. And I noticed from the beginning to now, I can throw higher balls with higher targets (with more power in it.) And I applied this into Tchoukball by receiving (and absorbing after you catch the ball.) Also throwing with higher targets.

Science refletion


One thing I learned from this unit was density. Density is the amount of mass per cubic volume. And the formula for density is mass divided by volume. I learned something about  this because Mrs. Hill taught me about a heart, and if you spilt the heart in half horizontally, there's a M and the top and a V at the bottom. The line sometimes represent divide in division. So M= Mass and V=volume. Mass divided by volume equals to density. I think one of the most memorable and meaningful things I did was the submarine because that taught me how to problem solve and to revise over and over again if I didn't get something or if it didn't become successful. It was also meaningful because it taught me that different people can have different ideas. Another thing that was memorable and meaningful is the layers of liquids because that also had to do with density. For example, the bottom color is at negative buoyancy because the liquid is denser than the others. And this is meaningful because I learned more about density and understand it better than before.

Fraction Comparison Reflection

Question: You know how to compare fractions using cross products, LCD, reasoning. When is it better to use one method over another? 

When both denominators don't have numbers that are in common, you would use cross products or reasoning depending on if the question is hard to do in your head. But when the denominators can be equivalent, then you would use LCD to find out which one is bigger. But easy problems like 2/4 and 1/3, you can use reasoning because you already know how much 1/3 is and how much 2/4 is.

Sportsmanship- on the sporting field and in the everyday life

1 example of sportsmanship: Never groan if you lose but learn from the mistakes I made. An example of that would be I would self-reflect about what you did good on or what you should work on etc.

3 ways I can demonstrate sportsmanship in PE: I can always try my best even though sometimes it doesn't work. And if I win, I never brag but compliment someone after class. Also I shake hands after every game.

2 ways that I can demonstrate sportsmanship in everyday life: I don't brag if I win, I just say "good game." I also play fair/ play by the rules. Like if we were doing water polo at our home pool, I would still play in the deep end and only use one hand to pass.

1 new way that you can demonstrate sportsmanship: I can try complimenting more, like during the game AND after the game.

Cartesian Divers. (Homework)

         A cartesian diver is a bottle that has some kind of object inside with water. Like a pipette, (what we used in class.) And you can make it float or sink or make it stay in the middle. During class, we learned that if the mass and the volume are the exactly the same amount, then the object would stay in the middle. But if the mass is the smaller number, the the object would float. And if the mass is bigger than the volume, the object would sink. We also learned about density during class and the average density of water should be 1g/cm3. If an object floats in the water, it has a density thats less than 1g/cm3. If an object sinks in the water, the density is more than 1g/cm3.  
We also learned about positive buoyancy, negative buoyancy, neutral buoyancy, and ballast. Positively buoyant means when the object is floating up. Meaning the density is more than 1g/cm3 and the mass is less then the volume. But negative buoyancy means the object is sinking and the mass is more than the volume. And the density is more than 1g/cm3. Liked you guessed, neutrally buoyant means the object is in the middle. Meaning the density is exactly 1g/cm3 and the mass is the same as the volume. Also, ballast means any material you use to help it sink. The density of something can change it you change the volume or mass. And the formula of getting density is if you draw a heart in between, the you would see a M or top and a V at the bottom. M stands for mass and V stands for volume. So the equation should be mass divided by volume.

Math Reflections: Factors and Multiples

Questions:

#1: Common multiples help you if you with questions that contains having to find out the common multiple of something. A common multiple is a multiple that both numbers have as one of their multiple. For example, if I had the number 6 and 9, the common multiple of 6 and 9 would be 3. But common factors help you with questions that include with finding the common factors. One example would be if there was a ferris wheel that goes for 3 seconds per round while another goes for 4 seconds. And they asked you what's the fastest time they can meet, then you would keep on adding 4+4 or 3+3 until you get a number that matches. In this case, the answer would be 12.

#2a: You can find the common factors by adding up 4+4 or 3+3 if I had a question like that ferris wheel. You keep on adding it until you spot a number that they have in common. Like 12. 12 is not the greatest common factor because you can keep on adding it up until you get 100 or more!

#2b: It sometimes provide the answer for you depending on the question. Because if the question is asking you to look for the greatest common factor, then you already know your answer.

#3a: You can find the common multiple by adding up the multiples by itself over and over again until you get a number that both numbers have. You can find the least common multiple by doing the same thing, except it's the first number you get that they have in common.

#3b: The least common multiple can also provide you the answer because if it was like the ferris wheel problem, you would need to keep on adding it over and over again until you get the seconds/time of when they meet.

Locker's problem



This problem involves with needing precise math. Because once you got something wrong, then you got the entire thing wrong. And I learned you shouldn’t over think it, or else you would get confused, then think of the wrong answer, making it not have the correct answer afterwards. So in conclusion, precision is the answer to this problem.
At first, my partner and I thought of just doing 100 circles and crossing them off, or “opening” them. But then we realized that it would take forever. So like Mr. Munden had said, it was all the square numbers and was either up to 1,000 or a little less than a 1,000. So when I got back home, I started doing all the square numbers until I got 1,000. In total: I got 31 lockers were open. And I got this by the square numbers that are up/a little below 1,000. Here’s the square numbers:


1,4,9,16,25,36,49,64,81,100,121,144,169,196,225,2256,289,361,400,441,484,529,576,625,

675,729,784,841,900, and 961. If you had counted them, you would have gotten 31 numbers. and that is the answer to the question! And at the bottom, as I had explained, you only needed to find all the square numbers up to 30. so here’s the 100 chart and showing you how many square numbers or opened lockers should be there.

Volume

Volume is the amount of space that takes up. Volume of liquids means how much liquid is inside the beaker/ container/ graduated cylinder/ etc. To measure a small amount of liquid, you use litters. But to measure even smaller amount of liquid, you use milliliters. When you are pouring liquid into the graduated cylinder or other things, you would have a little bubble on top that's called a meniscus. In order to read how much liquid there is, you need to read the bottom of the meniscus.

Laptop Agreement




  •  Why do you think you are responsible enough to take your laptop home and back to school each day?
  • Answer: Because I'll always keep it somewhere safe so then I don't loose it. 
  • Answer this question: How will you make sure that your laptop is charged each night? Where will you charge it? When? 
  • Answer: I'll make sure it's fully charge after I brush my teeth. And how I know it's charging is when I see a green/red light on the charger. I'll charge it on the living room table.

Have you ever typed mean things about your friend or even anyone? Have you ever sent out something embarrassing to the public about someone you hate, And then made fun of it by writing mean comments about? Think about it. Have you actually may have done that before, but then didn’t notice. This is called cyberbullying. Cyberbullying is online bullying. Which is talking online and saying something bad about someone. It could be chatting in gmail, or any kind of chats. You can be talking to your friends about how one of your classmates in your homeroom is really stupid online. Then everyone can see it. Everything you do leaves a footprint online. And it’s permanent there. Meaning it’s there forever! So make sure you don’t cyberbully others.

I used to think no one can see what you’re doing because once you delete it, it says it’s deleted and goes right into the trash can. But then I learned that people can scan the page you were on, and then forward it to his/her friends. Making other people know about. So if you do write bad comments about someone, others can see it, and it can hurt other peoples feelings. How I learned this was because in the computer boot camp, we watched a video about how anybody can see what you’re doing. Even now! So please, don’t do anything before you thought about it.
This learning changed my thinking on how the internet is safe. Because I never knew that people can track you and then still see what you were doing that time. So if you give your personal information, (Like passwords, where you live, phone number, etc.) then people like robbers can hack into your home. And this will impact my future because now I know that I should be more careful when I’m using the internet and not leave anything personal online. So for the big take away, I think it’s “think before you act.” Because if you thought about what you were going to do, you would know what’s right or wrong. (Or what you can and can’t do.)

my independent project

This is my art peice and I made this owl because I was inspired by owls. I did this project with Alex. From this project, I learned that clay has to take a lot of time and also when you put on the glaze, you have to be really precise. I also learned that you have to smooth out the outside so then it wouldn't be sharp. I think this is one of my favorite projects I've ever made.

Service Learning at Christalite Methodist Home

Today our class went to the Christalite Methodist Home and I learned that the seniors wanted their painting to look special. Like today, I was working with two seniors and one of them started fighting because they complained about how the paint was dirty. Because one of the seniors didn't wash their brush that often. I think that our class achieved the goal of trying to focus on the person, not the drawing and also trying to make a friend because a lot of them were having a good time. I know this because as they were doing the craft, I could tell that some of them were laughing and also enjoying this time with their friends. I think we achieved making friends because they shook hands with us and some of them were also thanking us for letting them paint with their friends. I felt happy to see all these seniors happy.

What I had learned about push pull factors in social studies

In this unit, I had learned about push pull factors. For push factors, it means why you had left that place. And for pull factors, it means why you wanted to stay in that place. Or, it means what attracted you to this place. This effects immigration because a push factor means that an immigrant or a person is expelled from one country to the next.
